The 26th Annual Conference of the British Academy of Management (BAM), September 11-13, 2012

The Annual BAM Conference was held in Cardiff City this year. The beautiful Wales venue, and the more than twenty different tracks (on eBusiness and eGovernment, entrepreneurship, human resource management, innovation, management consulting – to name just a few), academic as well as professional development workshops, and symposium sessions attracted 800 conference participants.

The SCR team presented the ongoing NOMAD project in a symposium session themed ‘User-driven service innovation and co-creation’.

Martin Meyer first introduced bibliographic analysis on key intersections between the research areas of service innovation, user innovation and open innovation. Jari Kuusisto outlined the development of service innovation policy, and demand and user-driven innovation policy in Finland. In her presentation, Arja Kuusisto drew attention to the key challenges organisations face in making use of users’ innovation activities. Finally, Stephen Flowers illustrated with the case of Nokia, how firms are collaborating with users and user communities. Lively discussion on the role of users in service innovation followed.
