The First International Symposium on Services Science (ISSS'09), Leipzig, Germany,
23-25 March 2009.

The First International Symposium on Services Science (ISSS'09) was held between March 23 and 25, 2009, at the University of Leipzig, Germany. ISSS'09 was organized by the University of Leipzig, the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI), the Leipziger Informatik-Verbund (LIV) and the Co-organizers BITKOM German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media as well as the KVD Kundendienst-Verband Deutschland e.V. A total of 200 researchers and practitioners in the area of Service Science attended the conference with high level keynotes given by Martin Jetter (Chairman of IBM Germany), Stephen Vargo (American Marketing Association, University of Hawaii) and Krzysztof Czarnecki (University of Waterloo, Canada). During the two parallel paper tracks about 50 individual presentations from researchers and practitioners as well as a podium discussion took place. The ISSS'09 was part of the multi-conference SABRE (Services Science, Agents, and Services for Business, Research, E-Sciences, and IT-Logistic) which was joined by more than 300 international attendees.

As part of the ISSS 2009, a PhD Student Workshop took place March 23rd, 2009. Pirjo Yli-Viitala from SCR participated in the Workshop by presenting her reviewed research design: “Applicability of NSD approaches in developing outsourced industrial services.”
